About The Event

Join Herbalist Amanda Crooke and Lisa Miccolis, Seasoned Horticulturist and Owner of Bountiful Gardens, to learn how to build your own apothecary from the ground up!

Building a home apothecary with your own hand-harvested and dried herbs is one of the most satisfying parts of home herbalism. Connect with nature and explore natural remedies for various ailments.

These 10 classes will be a full introduction to growing herbs and using them as medicine. In the first class, you’ll receive 30 herb plants. You’ll learn how and where to plant them, tend them, harvest them, and prepare them!

Lisa will guide you on garden design and growing advice, and Amanda will teach you how to make herbal medicine with these 30 herbs. Along the way, you’ll gain intro-level knowledge of herbalism. You’ll leave class with a thriving garden, a cabinet of herbal remedies, and the skills to keep making herbal goodies from your garden.

You’ll go deep with 30 herbs:

  • How to grow them in containers or a garden

  • Harvesting and storage

  • Materia Medica (i.e. how to use them medicinally)

  • How to prepare them as herbal remedies

You’ll also learn…

  • Intro-level herbalism

  • Herbal medicine-making

  • Basic phytochemistry (this is fun!)

You will make…

  • Herbal teas (hot & iced)

  • Tinctures (alcohol extracts)

  • Vinegars

  • Oxymels (sweet-sour syrups)

  • Herbal oils (culinary & skincare)

  • Salves

  • Bath salts

  • Sugar scrubs

The total course fee is $500, payable as a $125 registration deposit, followed by three additional payments of $125

Notes:

Classes at both locations are held in greenhouses. They should be cool enough in the evenings but aren’t air conditioned. The setting is somewhat rustic. Seating is on benches or folding chairs; if you need a cushioned chair, please bring your own. Porta potties are available.

We will serve herbal tea, but we recommend bringing a water bottle. You’re welcome to bring dinner or snacks to munch on.

Class will be capped at 25 students.
